This course takes a look at relational databases and using the Oracle environment to manipulate them.  PL/SQL will be used to develop database applications that solve business problems. You will also gain in-depth knowledge of the capabilities and features of Developer components and graphical user interface design.  Building forms and reports will also be highlighted to give an overall understanding of Oracle Developer.

This course covers the following:

Introduction to Oracle: SQL & PL/SQL (24 hours)

  • An overview of DBMS technology
  • Oracle architecture, the Oracle toolset and the PL/SQL engine
  • Variables and control constructs
  • Maintaining data with DML statements
  • Managing and retrieving data using cursors

Develop PL/SQL Program Units (24 hours)

  • Accessing and manipulating database data
  • Error-handling using EXCEPTIONs
  • Testing and Debugging PL/SQL routines
  • Writing stored procedures and functions
  • Developing event-driven code as triggers
  • PL/SQL tables and records

Developer 2000: Building Forms I (18 hours)

  • Introduction to basic Developer concepts
  • Providing user feedback
  • Building menus
  • Creating a form
  • Using the Layout Editor
  • Using GUI features

Developer 2000: Building Forms II (18 hours)

  • Developing PL/SQL code for use with forms
  • Procedures and functions
  • Debugging and tracing techniques in Form Builder
  • Defining block and relation properties using clauses and master-detail relationships
  • Designing Windows and canvases

Developer 2000: Building Reports (24 hours)

  • Basic Techniques in Report creation
  • Developing layout objects
  • Using the Report Wizard
  • Creating the report data model
  • Creating master-detail and tabular reports
  • Using triggers
