This course will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of how to develop a well-designed web site using a hands-on approach.  Microsoft FrontPage will be used to demonstrate how to place text and objects in a web page and other various features that can be altered.  The underlying HTML layout and syntax will then be discussed to give an overall understanding of the web creation process.

  • Web browsers
  • Electronic Mail
  • Newsgroups
  • File Transfer via FTP

  • Media types (RealAudio/Video, QuickTime, PDF)

Building a Web page

  • The purpose of your web site
  • Setting your goals
  • Layout and storyboarding
  • Creating a web ‘theme’

Using Microsoft Frontpage

  • Adding and formatting text
  • Changing background and object colors
  • Adding graphic elements and animated objects
  • Creating links and anchors
  • Incorporating sound and video
  • Using tables and frames

Hypertext Markup Language (HTML)

  • Head and body elements
  • Tags and their properties (text formatting, graphics, anchors)

Programming on the Server

  • CGI-scripting
  • Capturing user input with HTML forms
  • Processing user data with forms

Obtaining the webspace

  • Your Internet service provider
  • “Free” webspace
  • Publishing your web site
