The Windows 2000 environment contains all the features of previous Windows platforms plus a great deal of new enhancements.  It simplifies the control of enterprise-wide security and maximizing the availability of data and services.  Some of the new features include the Active Directory Service, DNS namespaces, Dfs, as well as EFS and delegated administration.

Windows 2000 is a replacement for Windows NT 3.51 and 4.0. A major advantage of Windows 2000 is that it has a more comprehensive library of drivers for various brands of peripherals. Unlike its predecessors, it is more stable as well as easier to install and maintain. Unlike its NT counterparts, Windows 2000 avoids frequent restarts during installation and troubleshooting.
